Check Out These Tips to Help Extend the Life of Your Water Heater

June 7, 2023 by hls_admin

Learn how to take care of your water heater.

Your plumbing lasts a long time. However, it can last even longer with the right maintenance. Ensure that you get the most out of your water heater with the right care. Check out these tips to help you extend the life of your water heater.

Anode Rod Replacement.

Over time, sediment builds up in your water heater. As the sediment builds, it can lead to major water heater issues down the line like corrosion. Fortunately, installing and regularly replacing your water heater’s anode rod can help to slow the process, extending the life of your water heater. This metal rod attracts the corrosive elements that would otherwise destroy your water heater.

Inspect the Pressure-Relief Valve.

A proper functioning pressure-relief valve can be a life saver when it comes to your water heater. As excess pressure builds, the pressure-relief valve helps to let out excess water, preventing your water heater from exploding. However, your valve isn’t always functional. Test your pressure-relief valve so that you can keep your water heater safe. Use a bucket to catch the excess water, and open the valve. Water should come out if your pressure-valve is working properly. If no water comes out, it could mean that it’s time to replace the valve.

Drain Sediments.

As sediment builds up in your water heater, it creates more wear and tear on your water heater. Plus, it can make your water heater run less efficiently, increasing your energy bill. Help keep your water heater in great shape for longer, and drain the sediment from your water heater. Let out the water until you no longer see sediment. However, use caution as the water is extremely hot.

Ensure that you take good care of your home’s plumbing so that you can help it last longer. For assistance with all your plumbing needs, contact the experts at Thousand Oaks Plumbing.
