Go Green & Check Out These Water Saving Tips for Your Plumbing

Water Saving Tips for Your Plumbing

Go green and modify your water consumption using these water saving tips!

The verdict is in. The disappointing El Niño season hasn’t done much to help ease the drought conditions in Southern California. Without an influx of water, conservation is an important aspect of California’s water usage. Do your part to help conserve water and go green! Check out these easy ways that you can save a few gallons with water saving tips.

  • Swap out your old toilets to newer models. Toilets use about 30 percent of your total household water use. You can reduce the amount of water that they use by changing out your older toilets that use 3.5 gallons of water to newer models that use as much as 1.28 gallons of water.
  • Reduce your shower time. Limit your showers to a maximum of ten minutes to save water. Additionally, try switching your showerhead to a low-flow model so that you’re not using as much water. A ten-minute shower with a low-flow shower head can help to save nearly 15 gallons of water.
  • Check for leaks. A leaky faucet or toilet wastes precious water. In fact, a leak can waste as much as ten gallons per day.  Start by looking at your water bill. If it seems high to you, you may have a leak in your plumbing. Have your pipes and irrigation systems inspected so that you can protect your home from water damage and reduce your household’s water consumption.
  • Change your appliances. From your dishwasher to your washing machine, you likely have a few water-guzzling appliances in your home. While these appliances help to save more water than hand washing, energy efficient appliances can also save a few gallons of water. The next time you’re in the market for a new appliance, look for one with an Energy Star approval. Additionally, installing a hot water circulation pump can help you water heat more quickly, meaning you save more water, money, and time.
