Happy July 2nd?

While we know the Fourth of July as American Independence Day, the declaration of independence was written on July 2nd. In fact, John Adams had written to Abigail Adams stating that July 2nd will forever go down in history. However, the declaration of independence wasn’t approved by Congress until two days on July 4th.

Fireworks Have Been a Long Tradition.

It’s tradition to watch spectacular fireworks displays on July 4th. However, this tradition spans back generation. In fact, it can be traced back to some of the earliest celebrations. It’s an integral part of Fourth of July celebrations, so much so that a post office was blown up on 1884 because they failed to supply fireworks.

Independence for All.

July 4th doesn’t just mark American Independence Day. There are several nations around the world that also celebrate their own independence on the Fourth of July. The Philippines celebrates the signing of the Treaty of Manila in 1946 and Rwanda celebrates “Liberation Day” on July 4th.

Fourth of July Food.

Backyard barbecues are a staple of the Fourth of July holiday. complete with hot dogs, burgers, and fruit, Independence Day accounts for a spike in food sales. Every year approximately 155 million hot dogs are sold, $92 million dollars are spent on chips and $167.5 million is spent on watermelon.
